Responsibility for our employees and social & societal responsibility
“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Our company can only be strong, healthy and successful if our employees are doing well. A committed, highly qualified and loyal workforce strengthens the company in the long term and thus the interests of all stakeholders. In the competition for new talent, METZ CONNECT benefits as an attractive employer from its reputation as an internationally oriented and innovative company with a long tradition as well as its strong value orientation, which is firmly anchored in the corporate culture. Our commitment to the environment and our fellow human beings does not end at the METZ CONNECT gates – quite the opposite. In addition to our initiatives to preserve and protect the environment, we are committed to our responsibility to society
At METZ CONNECT, everyone who shares the values of a free, democratic basic order is welcome, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion or ideology. We are thus meeting the increasing challenges of demographic change in a variety of ways. Through close cooperation with internationally oriented universities, we also try to attract young people from other cultural backgrounds to join the “Metz family”. As a result, our workforce today includes employees from over a dozen different nationalities. We have also been working with workshops for the disabled for decades.
For us, creating a good work-life balance also means thinking about the work-family balance of our employees. Numerous part-time jobs in production and administration, for example, enable employees to meet the demands of family and career in equal measure, whether for reasons of childcare or caring for relatives. We also provide support with other special offers such as:
- Flexible working hours (flexitime, part-time models)
- Mobile working
- Special vacations
- Discounts on events and shopping activities
As a logical consequence of our open attitude to diversity within the company, equal opportunities are a top priority at METZ CONNECT. Respectful and responsible interaction with one another is just as much a part of our corporate culture as protection against any form of discrimination and the promotion of inclusion. People with mobile disabilities have been part of the core workforce at METZ CONNECT for years.
We invest in the future by investing in qualified specialists and training them ourselves. Young people can start their careers here in the areas of development, design, production, commissioning and a variety of business and administrative-technical professions. The dual vocational training model has a long tradition in the company. The training spectrum includes, for example, dual courses of study in electrical engineering, media informatics or mechanical engineering production technology. In addition to attending university, students complete their practical phases at the company locations in Blumberg, Hungary, the USA or China. This gives students their first taste of the working world in other countries.
Regular placements with good to very good results in the final examinations are proof of the recognized high quality of METZ CONNECT training. The prospective specialists are offered excellent and secure career prospects with a promise of employment on successful completion of their training. This enables them to actively shape the rapidly growing market for building and energy management and, together with us, make a valuable and meaningful contribution to sustainability in their daily work. In addition, we offer employees from the technical areas with suitable qualifications the opportunity to obtain professional qualifications alongside their work (e.g. machine and plant operator, electrician, process mechanic).
METZ CONNECT offers its employees modern workplace conditions with mobile working, flex-time and working time accounts. Mobile working allows employees to perform their work outside of the company using mobile devices, as far as their job allows. Throughout the company, we ensure optimal working conditions with high standards of occupational health and safety. By promoting new technologies such as building and energy management and entering the market as a provider of system solutions, we are increasing our attractiveness as a safe employer through future-oriented fields of activity.
We have invested in a comprehensive development program to provide our employees with the best possible support throughout the company. Our Metz training catalog provides employees with a varied platform for company training and further education. All employees throughout the company have access to the Metz training catalog, which includes traditional classroom training and e-learning applications as well as external training in all relevant areas of expertise. We also provide employees with individual training measures. We specifically promote talent within the company with our own development plans.
With regard to the systematic promotion of junior managers, we have been working with an external management trainer for many years. Both in group training sessions and, if required, in individual coaching sessions, our future managers are purposefully and systematically introduced to their new tasks. In addition to the specialist learning modules, practical projects from day-to-day operations are worked on here, which also offer innovative problem-solving approaches for operational challenges.
The health of our employees is a top priority for us. We support our employees with various health prevention programs. Individual consultations with our company doctor and company-sponsored training sessions at external sports clubs and fitness clubs teach employees health skills. Participation in company runs and cycling competitions not only promotes health, but also team spirit and a sense of belonging to the company. We offer our employees targeted back and strength exercises to support mobility and make everyday working life easier. In production, employees are assigned to different machines to perform various movements and adopt different postures.
In our production plants, but also in the administrative areas, regular inspections and consultations are carried out to monitor compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and recommendations are made for optimizing work processes. For example, illnesses and accidents resulting from non-ergonomic movement sequences or heavy lifting can be avoided. The risk assessments are continuously updated. Regular instructions and training courses are designed to raise employees' awareness of any hazards that may arise. In order to prevent accidents at work, METZ CONNECT regularly carries out comprehensive analyses to diagnose accident black spots. With targeted communication and prevention, we are able to consistently reduce the risk of accidents.
METZ CONNECT's high level of employee satisfaction is also ensured by the direct contactability of the management in day-to-day business, as well as the semi-annual employee information meetings at all our locations. Work stoppages or strikes can thus be avoided, as the different concerns of individual employees are balanced out by consensus. METZ CONNECT also maintains a regular and open exchange on planned changes.
As an internationally oriented, traditional family business, METZ CONNECT has always stood for cosmopolitanism and tolerance. Our core workforce also includes people who have fled their home countries for political or religious reasons. Some have completed their vocational training at METZ CONNECT, others have started their careers directly. At our Blumberg site, we support the integration of these employees with various language courses, for example, with the aim of accompanying and promoting immigration into the economy.
The many voluntary activities of managers and employees at the chambers of industry and commerce, on examination boards, in a large number of associations or in blue light organizations such as technical relief organizations, fire departments and rescue services are part of the major social contribution. METZ CONNECT also supports political involvement in city and local councils. In many cases, employees are given time off work by METZ CONNECT for their various voluntary activities.
Our donation and sponsorship activities focus in particular on organizations and initiatives that enable people to lead successful lives through education. As a company with regional roots, we particularly support measures that benefit people in the areas surrounding our locations.
Company-wide guidelines apply to the allocation of donations and sponsorships in order to take targeted measures that are in line with the company's strategic and social orientation.
METZ CONNECT supports various social projects, foundations, associations and other non-profit, non-commercial organizations with donations in monetary form and in kind as part of its sponsoring and donation activities.
As a traditional company in the electrical industry, it is particularly important for METZ CONNECT to promote technological progress. In addition, the professional training of future generations has always been part of the company's identity. The focus here is on regular, intensive cooperation with various universities in the context of project work, Bachelor's and Master's theses and research projects. By regularly taking part in design and product competitions, we create a benchmark for the market. By participating in various associations and organizations, such as the BACnet interest group or the standards committee, we try to help shape the development trends of tomorrow.
The importance of climate and environmental protection is becoming increasingly clear. METZ CONNECT takes the issue of climate stabilization and the development of sustainable technologies very seriously and is taking targeted measures.
